Achievement Unlocked: MFA Unlocked
After 7 long years in Cleveland, OH, I’ve completed my studies for my MFA in contemporary dance! Diploma secured! Through choreography classes and technique classes, its so fulfilling to have these things culminate and show off my own artistic capabilities that are just beginning to bud.
For four nights on March 21st through March 24th, my cohort partner, Chengyao Zhou (Instragram: @chinyo_joo98 and cheng.y98), and I created a 60-minute length evening concert titled Vitromer. We both are so thankful to our advisors Karen Potter and Gary Galbraith for their guidance and constant “kicking upstairs” to creatively push us and develop our creative voices.
We each created three works - and I will say I did not get to reprise my part in Chengyao’s Shall We Drink A Cup of Tea Before You Leave. Like our concert title, I pulled from my polymer chemistry background and infused different aspects of this into my kinetic exploration for my works: Cerulean, Kinetic Echoes, and -MER.
Cerulean was a solo/trio I choreographed inspired by the various movements and motions of water, Kinetic Echoes was a quartet I choreographed utilizing wearable technology with a grant I was awarded, and -MER was a nonet inspired by polymer physics
A big thanks goes to the various individuals that assisted in making this concert come together and happen
