Solos for the Ocean: Drifting

Inspired by Rob Grant’s miniature piano compositions, Solos for the Ocean is a collection of three short solos that showcase each dancer’s personality and varied kinetics while pulling imagery and movement from the ocean in its multivariate forms. These solos were crafted with similar motific imagery in conjunction with Claire Christie's Haven and Megan Gregory's Afloat.

Solos for the Ocean offers a fresh and evocative exploration of how the natural world can inspire and transform artistic expression. Through nuanced choreography and expressive performance, the dancers paint a vivid portrait of the essences of the ocean, inviting audiences to immerse themselves in a world where dance and the sea converge.

Drifting, in particular, pulls on the transient nature of life - how we as individuals drift from one event to another, constantly looking forward in to the future (finding new opportunities and relationships) while also appreciating the past (learning from past experiences and relationships). Just like the ebb and flow of the ocean, this solo shows the intersection of "what will be" and "what has been."
