en vie aprés

Inspired by Cleveland-based sculptor, Lauren Yaeger, en vie aprés is a short solo created as a response to viewing Yaeger’s Cooler Tower.

The solo examines the existentialism behind living in a world consumed by polymer-based materials. The clothes we wear, the containers we use, the furniture in our house, the cases on our phones, and the bags we use… are all plastic materials with short life cycles before being thrown away. More so, due to their chemical nature, the degradation times of many plastics are long, longer than our lifetime. Products manufactured before the choreographer’s birth potentially still exist when the choreographer dies.

The solo explores being born into a world of plastic and how we must come to terms with the plastic problem our world faces today - only then can we find a solution to work with these materials.
